Francesca Amfitheatrof, director of design for Tiffany in 2013, was wearing her necklace from the eighty-seventh Oscar red carpet in February this year, and the Cate Blanchett was widely praised.

She is not only the first female design director in the history of Tiffany, but also one of the few jewelry designers with silver craftsmen background.

She is extremely low-key and therefore rarely known to outsiders.

Francesca, 44, was born in Tokyo, Japan. Her parents are American and Italian.

His father was a regional editor in chief of the Time, and his mother was a publisher.

Though an American citizen, his father spent his childhood in his home in Moscow and his grandparents in England and Italy because of his work in Moscow.

Francesca gave up the chance to go to Ivy League school. Not only did he choose to attend art college, but also jewelry design major, which undoubtedly shocked his parents. "My father wanted me to go to Harvard University, and I succeeded in taking the exam, but I threw it away."

Francesca has studied at the Chelsea Institute of art, the central Saint Martin Institute and the Royal College of Art in London. After graduation, she immediately worked as a designer for many big names, including Marni, Fendi, Wedgwood, Alessi and Asprey & Garrard.

In the past few years, the sale of Tiffany traditional flagship products has been weakening. Francesca has been the new creative director of Tiffany under heavy pressure. The outside world is full of expectation that she can lead the Tiffany design team to break the situation.

Analysts at Barclays Bank recently commented.

Tiffany

The reform of positioning and pferring to senior jewellery is progressing smoothly.

Among them, Francesca is indispensable.

A senior expert commented: "in the past ten years, there is hardly any new Tiffany or Co..

Originality

Things came out, but the entry of Francesca changed the status quo, not only retaining the tradition, but also constantly injecting new ideas for Tiffany, leading Tiffany to the forefront of design.

Her design works are alike in rare varieties and basic raw materials. She will oxidize gold to black, match cheap minerals such as white crystal and platinum, and use semi precious stones, such as opal, in diamond bracelet.

In Amfitheatrof's words, "I don't care so much about the value of raw materials."

For her, design is her main concern.

In terms of design concept, Francesca was largely influenced by two masters, Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander McQueen. For her, they were both collaborators and mentors.

Francesca said, "whenever I start a new design, I think, if it's Karl, what will he do?"

Karl's answer is inspiring: "just do what you want, you can."
